FOCUS STUDY:

Opening. The team started  at the city capitol few minutes before they  walked to the the first spot - Sampaloc Lake. Our entry "DOON PO SA AMIN, PITO ANG LAWA" is a students' investigative journalism / documentary about environmental awareness concerning  our beloved city - San Pablo. The documentary reveals that human habitation as well as the choice of livelihood of the people around the seven lakes severely affects the environment condition. In the end you will see how the students investigated these conditions, and how they will expose the history and beauty of San Pablo City's Seven Lakes despite  the  issues in cooperation with the local government and other concerned buddies of the said lakes.

First Spot (SAMPALOC LAKE).For our safety and to make sure we get proper information from our exploration, the City Tourism Affairs of San Pablo referred us to an official tour guide/ known conservationist / licensed Philippine National Red Cross Rescuer in the name of Mr. Arvin Carandang to accompany us throughout the  journey. Let us now explore what is more with  Sampaloc lake tagged as the most developed among the seven lakes, by watching this video.

Second Spot (BUNOT LAKE). Our journey led us to the second spot which is Bunot Lake. Riding in a passenger jeepney or any available vehicle, Bunot Lake is just 10 minutes away from the  City Proper. Watch the video below to see this wonderful creation and know what are the issues concerning this lake.

Third Spot (MOHICAP LAKE). After exploring Sampaloc and Bunot Lake, the team moved on to Mohicap Lake just 25 minutes away from the city proper. The said lake is a natural habitat for most organisms but experienced abuse from its previous existence. More and more as the exploration went on, more information were  revealed to the team. Just a trivia, Mohicap Lake was named after a girl from its legend who was cursed from stepping on mother earth.
Let us know more about this lake by watching this video.

Fourth Spot (PALAKPAKIN LAKE):Palakpakin lake is just along the
roadway between San Buenaventura and San Lorenzo. Just an overview, Palakpakin lake is fascilitated by a former Seven Lakes Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (SLFARMC) President in partnership with some students of Ateneo. They are also producing smoked tilapia, organic fish feeds with some sort of organic farming. Be the one to witness how Palakpakin Lake advances in technology with its "WATER QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM AND SOLAR PANELS".

Fifth Spot (CALIBATO LAKE).  Our next spot was said to be the most adventure-filled one. Calibato lake offers a hiking type adventure where tourists enjoy trekking as they go to the lake. The rocky paths as you dwell towards the lake clearly speaks of the name of the said lake - CALIBATO. Just an overview, one of the major problems of Calibato is the saltation where the  sand coming from the quary are slowly drifting towards the lake  making it shallower. Watch the video for further adventure.

Sixth Spot (PANDIN LAKE): Ready for the next exciting trip to Pandin Lake. Despite this cold fact that the lake together with Yambo is not suitable for fish culture (being oligotrophic) later on it  turned out to be one of the major tourists destinations in the city of San Pablo. Have you ever heard of the bangkeras? Watch this video to uncover your curiosity.

Seventh and Last Spot (LAKE YAMBO): - the lake with less exposure??? Lake Yambo was dubbed as the twin lake of Lake Pandin having 110 meters distance from each other. Accessibility is one of the major problems in Yambo , nevertheless it also becomes a good news for less people will also pollute it. Let's watch this video.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Our journey to our very own Seven Lakes has now ended but the lessons we learned is forever. Touring around the Seven Lakes guarantee enjoyment with trekking, biking and hiking in the majestic and enchanting beauty of the said lakes.

Environmental concerns were observed in all places of the world. Social responsibility is a must for us to balance economy and environment. In view of the aforementioned set up,  our team decided to have an environment documentary about the seven lakes of San Pablo. The following  factors were observed:

Human Habitation - informal dwellers and other houses nearby the lake totally affect the lake environment. Tremendous waste are being dumped to the lake that causes pollution. This kind of situation must be prevented in order for us to preserve these wonderful lakes.

Choice of Livelihood - also affects the condition of each lake. Business and other means of pollutants will obviously add to the bad condition of the lakes especially near urban areas. Fishing industries are being limited to 10% of the total land area of the lake.

We have also found out that these Seven Lakes are not solely controlled by the local government of San Pablo. As mandated, the legal right of preserving and managing these lakes fall under the supervision of LAGUNA LAKE DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY. Likewise, it is our moral obligation to take the initiative of maintaining the beauty of the lakes.

On the otherhand, the Seven Lakes Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (SLFARMC) and the City Government of San Pablo are exerting efforts to maintain and promote seven lakes here in San  Pablo.

Despite  the above mentioned factors, San Pableños still have the initiative of taking good care of these wonderful gifts.  Time will come that through our cooperation and discipline, these lakes will be the center of ECO-TOURISM  here in the province of Laguna.
